Candlelight Christmas Carol Sing
Music filled the air!
Drive Up Candlelight Christmas Carol Sing Sunday, December 13 at 6:00 pm.
On New Street you could sit in your car with the windows down and sing along or just listen, or you could walk up and socially distance yourselves wearing a mask in the yard or on the street around the Session House. Members of the choir were singing from the Session House porch, and Vance played the piano from inside the Session House. It was amplified so you could hear. We had candles to light and song sheets available. We are hope we brought you some Christmas cheer.
Then on Monday & Christmas Eve:
The Craven Messiah Chorus and Public Radio East broadcast the 2017 35th anniversary performance of Handel's Messiah on Monday, December 14 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the Classical Music Station. The broadcast is a gift to the community in appreciation for 40 years of support from the community, and includes an interview with conductor James Ogle, of Boise Idaho. Listeners may tune in to 88.5 New Bern, 90.3 Kinston/Goldsboro and 91.5 Atlantic Beach/Beaufort, and it will stream live on the PRE Classical web stream at PublicRadioEast.org. The performance will also air on Christmas night, December 25, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. To listen on your computer, find the Public Radio East website publicradioeast.org and select Classical Music. Try it ahead of time so you don't miss any of the broadcast.

Centering Prayer Group
Don’t let this title frighten you off. Centering prayer has been around for a long time and is regaining more attention as a useful way of nurturing our new life in God’s Spirit. We will study The Universal Christ by Richard Rohr as our guide in re-discovering God’s Spirit present in all life. Contact Lloyd Griffith.
Contemplative Worship
This contemplative, or reflective, approach to worship is offered each Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm. This quiet service is focused around silence, prayer and reflection on the Biblical text chosen for preaching the coming Sunday. The Lord’s Supper is observed on the 4th Wednesday of the month. Join when you can and bring a friend. Contact Lloyd Griffith.
Kerygma Class
The Adult Education Commission is excited to offer those who are interested to “journey through the bible” in a year with Rev. Eddie Bellis. We will meet once a week to discuss the general themes of the scripture as laid out in the Kerygma: Discover the Bible curriculum. This fall’s study, participants will discover and discuss items such as Torah, United Monarchy, Kings (both North and South) , Israel’s History, Writings, and Prophets (both minor and major). Kerygma curriculum uses modern adult learning theory plus current scholarship and is a homework oriented class. Each gathering will discuss the homework and any questions we may have as a result of the study. We will begin our journey with meetings using Zoom, but we will reevaluate the format based on recommendations from NC Department of Health. Our first meeting on Wednesday, September 9 at 7pm will be approximately 30 minutes so that orders for the curriculum can be made, meeting time discussed, and thought given to how we wish to meet (Zoom or in person). The cost of the curriculum is 35 dollars and this purchase is for an entire year’s worth of work.
