Job Title: Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry
Position Summary: The Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry supports the mission of First Presbyterian Church by developing and nurturing a youth ministry, overseeing children and youth education and creating a family ministry that integrates young families the congregation in a meaningful experience that includes worship, study, fellowship and service to our members and the community.
The position is supervised by the Associate Pastor and it is a full-time position.
The Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry duties include but are not limited to the following:
Develop Youth Groups activities that attract individuals and focus on Christian fellowship and service to the church and community
Develop and oversee the Children’s and Youth Ministry Christian education programs of the church
Create a family ministry involving young families in the congregation in meaningful activities including worship, study, fellowship and service.

The Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministry duties include but are not limited to the following:
Develop Youth Groups activities that attract individuals and focus on Christian fellowship and service to the church and community
- Provide a strong, high-quality and inclusive Middle High and High School youth experience on Sunday nights as well as other times when youth and their families are available. Encourage input from the youth on programs and activities of interest to them, Organize joint youth group gatherings with neighboring churches as appropriate
- Organize and attend annual conferences, camps (e.g. Montreat Senior High Youth Conference, Massanetta Middle School Conference, New Hope Presbytery Middle School and High School Retreats, etc.) with the youth that will foster strong bonding among them while strengthening their faith
- With input from the youth and parents, conduct service projects and mission trips that benefit the church and community, while promoting leadership, building group relationships, and demonstrating the servant model shown by Jesus. Seek innovative ways to bring youth and families together in worship, service, study and fellowship activities which engage them in the life of the church
- Plan and conduct worship activities that the youth participate in such as Youth Sunday and Senior Recognition Sunday, with presentation of Carl Wheeler Jr. Memorial Bibles to seniors as well as the awarding of the John M. Smith Scholarship and Music scholarships
- Facilitate and oversee S.A.L.T. (Serving And Learning Together) ministry for 3rd – 5th grade children
- Recruit and train volunteers among the parents of the youth and the congregation to assist in the planning and execution of programs, retreats, service projects, worship services, etc. and to develop bonds with the youth
Develop and oversee the Children’s and Youth Ministry Christian education programs of the church
- Coordinate and teach Sacraments Class (2nd grade)
- Coordinate and participate in Confirmation classes which prepare youth for confirmation (10th grade)
- With the Christian Education Committee and pastors, oversee curriculum selection as well as recruitment and training of teachers for children and youth Sunday School.
- Recruit and train adult volunteers for the above programs
- Evaluate existing programs and initiate improvements where needed. Develop additional ideas to engage the kindergarten through 5th grade children
- Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly Christian Education Committee meetings
- Serve as liaison between the Adult Education and Children and Youth Education committees and attend their meetings as necessary
Create a family ministry involving young families in the congregation in meaningful activities including worship, study, fellowship and service.
- Develop opportunities for young families to gather and connect with each other and form bonds which will foster a desire to serve the church by learning about our faith, volunteering with the youth groups, teaching Sunday School, and having fun
Qualifications
- The position will possess a commitment to Christ and the Church including a knowledge of scripture and a theological perspective compatible with the Reformed tradition
- Bachelor’s degree (degree in Religion or Christian Education preferred, not required) and two years of experience in youth and/or children’s ministry
- Verifiable history of and passion for leading and inspiring children, youth and adults
- Proficiency with MS Office, social media and other communication technologies as well as strong writing and public communication skills
- Flexibility to work with a diverse range of theological levels and the ability to envision
