Care Commission responds to the needs of our church members in a caring, compassionate manner in a number of ways.
Funeral receptions are provided by the wonderful volunteers on our Caring and Sharing Committee.
Each year every member is contacted by our Calling Committee as a means of connection and care.
Food 4 You, through the generous donation of many volunteers, provides frozen home-cooked meals to take to individuals and families in times of need.
Helping Hands coordinates a team that responds to the real-life, unexpected needs of individuals and families in the church.
Using their gifts of knitting, Knit for Others is composed of volunteers who create chemo caps, prayer shawls, infant booties and caps, stocking caps, scarves and mittens, to donate to those who need them.
The Prayer Care Team and the Prayer Chain offer a means of offering prayer for those who have asked for prayer or who have recently been hospitalized. Prayer request cards and envelopes are in the pew racks. If you have a prayer request for you or a your loved one, please supply the information requested on the prayer card and put it in the privacy envelope. Confidentiality is always honored. For all other requests or questions, please call Janet Benrey 252-638-5787. For my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. Isaiah 56:7c
As part of the Special Pastoral Care Committee, trained volunteers serve as lay visitors to those who have difficulty attending church or who are in need of spiritual friendship.
To learn more about the work of the Care Commission or if you have or know of a specific need, please contact Care Commission chair Becky Nohr.

Grief Support Group

Grief Sharing
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to attend First Presbyterians Grief Support Group? Is a grief-sharing group for me? Will I feel comfortable attending? What if I sit there silent, or worse, start crying? I can tell you that this group voluntarily provide those members, that have lost a loved one, with hope and understanding, as well as support and guidance as you bring yourself though this murkiest of times.
Many studies in the area of grief have proven that each one of us grieves differently. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. The length and depth of a person’s grief is only known to them. I have learned that we have no way of getting over it, around it, or under it. You must go through it; it’s inevitable and an extremely challenging time. Along the way, you may find areas where you are stuck and can’t seem to move in any direction. Only through God’s love are we able to get through it.
This grief support group often provides lessons learned, helpful hints or just a listening ear because they have experienced the same kind of hurt and pain that we are certain nobody could possibly understand. The Grief Support Group is a vessel where we can vulnerably share our thoughts and concerns, with no judgment, no requirement. You only share with the group if you are moved to do so. We meet once a month on Tuesday at 12:30pm. All are welcome. If you are interested in coming to a meeting of this support group, please contact one of the ministers or Priscilla Miller in the church office.
